.8%. >> but a major drop in unemployment just before the election has some questioning those results. mitt romney is campaigning in virginia today as well. he says many of those new jobs are part-time and that, he says, is not what a real recovery looks like. >> even those that have jobs are having tough times. the middle class is being squeezed with higher and higher costs and incomes that have gone down. >> but history says this latest jobs report could play a part in the election. no president has been reelected with unemployment above 8% since the great depression. but there is one more jobs report that comes out the first week of november just days before the voting. >>> here in d.c., we are paying $3.91 a gallon for gas. if you think that's pricey, be glad you don't live in california. overnight, prices jumped 17 cents out on the west coast to $4.49. that's the highest in the nation. and in many parts of the state, prices climbed 40 cents per gallon just this week. some gas stations have shut down. there's a supply shortage. a so-called perfect storm in california is what is causing this.
